All TRW services have been restored.  No e-mail should have been lost.  Thank you for your patience.

Web/E-mail Down

At approximately 9:30 PM August 5, the server hosting retrieverweekly.com powered off.  While we are unsure of exactly what caused this (power loss in UC 214, mechanical failure, DoIT, etc.), we will be heading to Baltimore at close of business today to remedy the situation.

Best Case Scenario: Press the power button on the server

Worst Case Scenario: Wipe and restore server hard drives from backup (latest backup from August 4).

Most likely, the fix will be somewhere between the best and worst case scenarios.

No production information has been lost.  The file server which holds all the InDesign documents and user account files should not have been affected.  Because of the current situation with DoIT, the server hosting retrieverweekly.com is the only system we can access remotely and since it is not powered on, there is nothing that can be done remotely.

The wikis are back online.

It looks like the Mac OS X 10.5.2 update we applied last week broke access to our Wikis. We're going to try to have them back up today but it may require us to take the web site down, so we will wait until after production.

Power Outage

Around 10:20 AM, a chunk of the Catonsville/Arbutus area including parts of UMBC experienced a power outage. Our UPSs in the office kicked in immediately, but the duration of the outage was just long enough for the UPS powering od2, the current production server, to run out of battery power. In addition, it seems that whatever system OIT has in place to prevent against power failure also expired during the extended duration of the outage. Everything is back to normal now.
